Cheesy Air Fryer Bread Pizza

When you want pizza but have absolutely no intention of making dough, bread pizza is the answer. Ordinary slices of bread turn into a crispy pizza fix topped with pizza sauce, plenty of melted cheese, bresaola, colourful bell peppers and red onion. They take just 5 to 7 minutes in the air fryer, which makes them perfect for a quick snack, an easy lunch or a weeknight bite, with fresh basil added after cooking for a simple fresh finish.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bread
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp pizza sauce or marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded cheese, preferably a mozzarella and cheddar mix
  • 3 slices bresaola, cut into smaller pieces
  • ½ red bell pepper, diced
  • ½ yellow bell pepper, diced
  • ¼ red onion, chopped
  • Fresh basil leaves, to finish

Method

  1. 01

Prepare the bread: lightly brush each slice of bread with olive oil.

  2. 02

Add the sauce: spread the pizza sauce or marinara evenly over the oiled bread.

  3. 03

Add the first cheese layer: sprinkle a layer of the shredded mozzarella and cheddar mixture over each slice.

  4. 04

Add the toppings: top with the bresaola, diced red bell pepper, diced yellow bell pepper and chopped red onion, distributing everything evenly across the four slices.

  5. 05

Add more cheese: finish each bread pizza with a little more shredded cheese over the toppings.

  6. 06

Air fry: arrange the bread pizzas in the air fryer without unnecessarily overlapping them, then air fry at 180°C / 350°F for 5 to 7 minutes, until the bread is crisp around the edges and the cheese is melted, bubbly and lightly golden.

Finish: remove from the air fryer, top each bread pizza with fresh basil and serve immediately while the cheese is hot and melted.

Air fryers vary, so start checking from around the 5 minute mark rather than assuming yours will need the full 7 minutes.

Lackie's Notes

Dice the bell peppers fairly small so they cook quickly during the short air frying time.

Avoid overloading the bread with sauce, because too much can make the centre soggy.

Adding cheese both underneath and over the toppings gives a good cheesy finish.

Start checking at around 5 minutes, because air fryer models vary.

Add the fresh basil after cooking rather than before air frying.

Serve immediately while the bread is crisp and the cheese is still melted.
