Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich
Juicy steak, sautéed peppers and onions, loads of melted cheese and a warm, buttery toasted roll. This Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich is proper comfort food and surprisingly easy to make at home. I cooked the steak and vegetables on the stove, toasted the rolls in the air fryer, then gave the assembled sandwiches one final air fryer finish to get that cheese beautifully melted.

Ingredients
- Skirt steak, thinly sliced
- Bell peppers, sliced
- Onion, sliced
- Cheese slices
- Sandwich rolls
- Vegetable oil
- Butter
- Garlic, minced
- Fresh parsley, finely chopped
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Paprika
- Garlic powder
- Spicy mayo or sriracha mayo, for serving
Method
- 01
Prepare the garlic parsley butter by mixing softened or melted butter with minced garlic and finely chopped fresh parsley. Set aside.
- 02
Heat a little vegetable oil in a pan over medium high heat. Add the sliced peppers and onions and sauté until softened with a little colour around the edges. Remove and set aside.
- 03
Add the thinly sliced skirt steak to the hot pan. Season with salt, black pepper, paprika and garlic powder, then cook quickly until browned and just cooked through.
- 04
Return the peppers and onions to the pan and toss everything together. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- 05
Slice the sandwich rolls without cutting completely through.
- 06
Brush the inside of each roll with the garlic parsley butter.
- 07
Place the rolls in the air fryer and toast briefly until warm and lightly crisp.
- 08
Fill each toasted roll generously with the steak, peppers and onions.
- 09
Add the cheese slices over the hot filling.
- 10
Return the assembled sandwiches to the air fryer for a short final cook, just until the cheese has melted and the rolls are golden around the edges.
- 11
Serve immediately with spicy mayo on the side.

Lackie's Notes
Slice the steak thinly. Skirt steak cooks quickly, and thin slices keep the filling tender and easy to eat.
Don't skip the garlic parsley butter on the rolls. Brush it inside before toasting for extra flavour.
Don't overdo the final air fryer cook. Everything is already cooked at that stage. You only need enough time to melt the cheese, warm the filling and lightly crisp the bread.
Serve it with
Serving Suggestion
Serve hot with spicy mayo or sriracha mayo for dipping.
